Letter to the Editor of The Clipper Newspaper at Everett C.C.
Dear Editor:
I am writing forthwith to state my views on the up and coming event in which Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. from the Westboro Baptist Church, has been invited to speak on The Everett Community Collages campus. Mr. Fred Waldron Phelps, Sr. and his followers are well known across the nation to be hate extremists, especially against homosexuality. Although I feel it is part of our front Amendment skilfuls to speak freely, there is no place for hate speech communication on Everett Community Colleges campus.
According to the WAC 132E -120-380 in the Everett Community College school-age child handbook on page 24 it states, Everett Community College Affirms its freight to equal educational opportunity for all its students, and its commitment to pick up that there is no discrimination against any student, or those who pass for student status, on the basis of race, religion, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, the presence of any physical, sensory or mental disability, or status as a disabled or Vietnam period veteran in accordance with state and federal laws. So I ask, why is Mr. Fred Waldron Phelps allowed to speak on campus?

I see with having speech codes prohibiting hate speech on campus to insure the persona of learning for all, but not all share my view. In one essay by Alan Charles Kors, called Betrayal of Liberty on Americas Campuses,
Underwood 2
he talks about the loss of freedom of speech on campuses and how it is far greater than most people realize. States, A nation that does not initiate in freedom will not survive in freedom, and will not even know when it has lost it. (336) I agree, but Kors also believes students know right from wrong. This in whatsoever ways is not always true; If all students knew right from wrong, then what about those students who use derogatory words (such as N***a, or F*g) towards their friends?...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Orderessay
