In the novella A Small bureau, Jamaica Kincaid crafts an origin about the harm Caribbean tourism has had in her native Antigua. At first, A Small Place presents itself as a sure picture of a tourist landing in the Caribbean island of Antigua. You turn up from customs into the hot, clean air: immediately you feel cheery (which is to say special); you feel free (Kincaid 5).
