In Anton Checkhovs short story The await, a lawyer and a Banker agree to a 2 million dollars see with each other based on whether capital penalty is better or/ worse than spiritedness imprisonment. Their lack of comprehension toward their decision affected their lives greatly. The plot is a perfect voice of situational irony through three main aspects: decision-making, education, and self-imprisonment.
The theme of The Bet is a familiar one: raft must pack the situation they are in thoroughly and carefully earlier taking a decision because it affects individuals life whether it was a good or a bad outcome. The attorney would rather have been locked up in prison than universe executed. Then the Banker who clearly didnt think through anything on the spur of the moment lost his temper and made a bet for two million dollars that the attorney wouldnt last for five long time in a cell on his own. In response, the attorney impulsively agreed to spend fifteen years in prison. Most people would consider prison a punishment; however, the Lawyer has elected willingly to go to jail without committing a crime to prove his point.
Education provides people with the knowledge they motive to understand and participate in todays world.
It cultivates people to become mature individuals capable of planning their futures and taking the justly decisions. It makes people more self-sufficient and aware of opportunities and privileges. In prison, the Lawyer was cultivating his skill & knowledge through reading novels, writing letters, studying languages, learning about natural science, chemistry, medicine, and philosophy. We would think that the Lawyer would utility through education and be appreciative as he won the greatest gift of all, knowledge. However, the complete opposite happened! He ended up doing nothing but being miserable, depressed, hating books, despising wisdom and the blessing of the world.
