Summary chapter 1-8
Gabriel Oak, who is twenty eight historic period old, lived in Norcombe Hill. He is described as a childlike man, who doesn’t really care about his appearance. Although he wasn’t very talkative he was very respected by the people in the town.
While Oak was working the republic he saw a wagon that was passing by. The vehicle stopped there because whatsoeverthing had fallen off and the driver went to collapse it up. Inside the wagon there was a woman that prise herself when she looked her reflection in a mirror that she pulled out from some luggage. When the diver returned she put away the mirror.
In the turnpike entrâËšée the woman refused to pay two pence that the gatekeeper demanded. So a dispute started. Meanwhile Oak had been looking all the sequence and in order to put an end to this dispute he gave the gatekeeper the property. The woman didn’t thank Gabriel; this was something that upset him. He though she was a vain woman.
It was a cold wintertime’s night and Gabriel was playing his flute inside his hut. It was a simple but comfortable hut. He had recently pay back an independent sheep farmer after he had bought his first sheep with the money he had earned during his life. He was a very accountable man and worked hard.
That night he was admiring the sky full of stars when he saw and artificial light up in the hill. He went to see and install a shed. Inside were two women, a young one and an older one. Both were nursing the contain of a calf. The younger one was preoccupied because her hat has existence carried off by the wind. Gabriel Oak started to observe that woman, he was toilsome on her, and imagining how she might be. A moment after, when the woman drops her overwhelm he recognizes her. She was the woman of the wagon.
